Marion Sanséau

Marion Sanséau is an artist of detail, as well as a writer, photographer, and illustrator. She was born in Vannes, France, in 1989.

From her earliest memories of growing up in Brittany, Marion remembers spaces. Moving from one home to another, she accumulated these temporary places of refuge deep within herself, along with the emotions they carried. Yet it was never she who inhabited the places—it was the places that came to inhabit her.

From the four corners of Brittany to Martinique, Paris, and Ireland, Marion carried her boxes from one place to the next without ever truly putting down roots. Although the houses kept changing, one thing remained constant: her passion for creation, the Ariadne's thread running through a life shaped by movement.

From childhood, Marion developed a love of drawing. She took art classes before choosing it as her specialist subject in high school. She later pursued literary and linguistic studies, eventually becoming a teacher, yet she never set her pencils aside for long. Away from the classroom, drawing became an almost cathartic practice. Working independently, the evolution of her artistic practice has always mirrored who she is at her core. Wholehearted by nature, she refused to choose between disciplines and instead chose simply to be.

At times a writer, at times a photographer, the medium matters little as long as it allows her to communicate.

Having wandered through countless landscapes, Marion has sharpened her eye, making architecture her playground.

She is drawn to houses, whether they rise one storey or ten. She loves them weathered, old, overlooked—built from every imaginable material and viewed from every possible angle.

What fascinates her most are the details: the unexpected, the invisible, and the ordinary. These subtle traces and fleeting moments reveal the passing of life and time. Beneath asphalt, within stone, or emerging from the earth, whatever grows moves her deeply. She gently brushes the leaves that spill over old walls—a quiet yet restorative gesture. Hydrangeas, ferns, and wild vegetation gradually imprint themselves upon both her heart and her hands as she wanders through the spaces between walls.

Marion gathers these rich textures, receding lines, contrasting light, and the words that accompany them, all with the same purpose: to create in order to share.
