Nathalie Richard

Portrait

French Ceramic Artist
Lives and works in France.

After an initial career as a graphic designer and photographer, Nathalie Richard turned to ceramics in 2016. Trained in wheel throwing and glazing techniques, she has developed a sculptural practice in which clay, gesture, and fire become the essential elements of creation.

Her work explores the expressive qualities of clay and glaze, seeking a delicate balance between texture, contrast, and mineral depth. She works primarily with black grogged stoneware, whose density and tactile richness interact with carefully developed glazes, while occasionally incorporating porcelain for its luminosity and refined qualities.

Each piece begins on the potter's wheel before being intentionally shifted, distorted, and reshaped by hand. Moving away from perfect symmetry, her vessels take on organic forms whose powerful silhouettes evoke geological formations, volcanic landscapes, and terrains shaped by time, softened by fluid and sensual curves.

Balancing technical precision with experimentation, Nathalie Richard creates works that exist between sculpture and functional object. Her ceramics celebrate the raw beauty of natural materials and the transformative power of fire, revealing a poetic dialogue between balance, imperfection, and mineral landscapes.
