Karima Ben Cheikh

Karima Ben Cheikh is a Tunisian-Moroccan visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice explores the relationships between memory, place, and transmission. Working across painting, drawing, photography, video, and writing, she creates poetic bodies of work in which intimate narratives intersect with broader questions of identity, displacement, and cultural heritage.

After studying graphic design in Tunisia and later visual arts and contemporary art in France, she settled in Paris in 2010, where she developed a practice shaped by her dual cultural background. Drawing inspiration from Mediterranean landscapes, domestic interiors, family memories, and the traces left by time, she creates images in which reality and remembrance merge, allowing every detail to become the fragment of a larger narrative.

Painting now occupies a central place in her practice. Through a slow process of layering, erasure, and reworking, she builds surfaces that preserve the memory of their own making. Balancing figuration and suggestion, her works invite viewers to reflect on what remains unseen: absence, silence, memory, and the emotional imprint carried by places and the people who inhabit them.

Her work has been exhibited in France and internationally. Alongside her artistic practice, she is the founder and director of Galerie KHÅL in Paris, where her curatorial vision extends her ongoing exploration of memory, territory, and contemporary narratives.

Through a deeply human and contemplative practice, Karima Ben Cheikh creates paintings that become spaces for reflection, resonance, and shared memory.
