Claire Coupvent
French Visual Artist
Born in Nantes in 1982. Lives and works between Clichy and Pornic, France.
A graduate of the Pivaut School of Applied Arts in Nantes, Claire Coupvent develops a multidisciplinary practice that brings together painting, drawing, ink, and botanical printing techniques to explore the relationships between humanity and the living world. Her work reflects on memory, resilience, and the transformations of landscape, revealing the traces left by time as well as the fragile connections that bind us to nature.
Plant life lies at the heart of her visual language. Vines, ferns, and organic forms recur throughout her work as symbols of growth, interdependence, healing, and renewal. Rather than serving as decorative motifs, these elements embody the quiet strength of nature and its capacity to regenerate, even after disruption or loss.
Her practice is distinguished by an experimental approach to materials. Acrylic paint, ink, drawing, and botanical impressions inspired by traditional printmaking techniques are combined to create richly textured surfaces where materiality becomes an essential part of the image. Each work preserves the memory of its making, reflecting a creative process grounded in observation, patience, and a close dialogue with natural forms.
Alongside her studio practice, Claire Coupvent places collaboration and transmission at the centre of her artistic commitment. She regularly participates in collective projects, curates artistic events and exhibitions, and leads workshops for diverse audiences, including hospital patients and young people facing educational challenges. This social dimension naturally extends her artistic practice, reinforcing the connection between creation, care, and shared experience.
Her work has been exhibited widely throughout France and has received increasing institutional recognition, notably with the Achille Fould-Stirbey Prize 2025, awarded by the Académie des Beaux-Arts. Through a practice that combines technical refinement with ecological sensitivity, Claire Coupvent creates works in which nature becomes a space of memory, resilience, and continual renewal.
