Flora Mae Nguyen
Lives and works in Paris – France
Practicing photography since adolescence, Flora Mae Nguyen first followed a different academic path, studying political science and law before fully committing to photography. She later trained at the Gobelins School in Paris (2013) and at the Rodchenko School of Multimedia and Photography in Moscow (2014), where she was encouraged by photographer Igor Mukhin.
Born in Paris to a Vietnamese family, she continues to live and work there today.
Through her photographic work, Flora Mae Nguyen explores representations of femininity across urban landscapes (The Moskva), street photography (Summer in Moscow / Paris mon amour), and personal memory (Indochine). More recently, her work has taken a more engaged direction, questioning and subverting colonial and exotic representations in projects such as Merci Bo C(o)u.
Her work has been presented in numerous exhibitions, including in Moscow (French Embassy, 2014; International Chamber of Commerce, 2015), at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris (2024), during the France–Brazil Season at FotoRio (2025), at the International Photo Biennale in Hanoi (2025), and at the Rencontres Photographiques de Guyane.
